Prof. Judith Kelner is a full faculty member of the Center of Informatics in UFPE since 1979. She is the co-founder and research leader of the GRVM team since 1998. Prof. Kelner received her Ph.D. from the Computing Laboratory at the University of Kent at Canterbury, the UK in 1993. She currently teaches multimedia and interactive systems and applications, and coordinates numerous research projects in the areas of computer vision, robot interaction, cloud computing, data science visualization and smart communication devices. She has a partnership with Petrobras, Sapura, Chesf, Ericsson and several others companies. Lately she received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the call for Grand Challenges Explorations: Data Science Approaches to Improve Maternal and Child Health.
PhD Researchers
Dr. Anna Priscilla A Wheler is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Ontario Tech University in Canada, researching Inclusive Design and Social Robotics. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil, in 2021. She also holds a Computer Science master’s degree and a Design bachelor’s degree, both in UFPE. She has an equivalent BA degree in Computer Games Design (Story Development) at the University of East London in the UK. Her primary research domains are Child-Computer Interaction, Human-Robot Interaction, Human-Centered Design, and Rapid Prototyping.
Dr. Cleber Morais is a Researcher in computer science at the Federal University of Pernambuco. His research topic is in data visualization of electronic health records of infectious diseases. Currently, he is involved in a Pernambuco’s syphilis health records visualization research project at The Virtual Reality & Multimedia Research Group (GRVM/UFPE). He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil, in 2022. He also have a Master´s and Bachelor’s Degree from the Federal University of Pernambuco, both in social communication. He is an assistant professor at the Federal University of Paraíba, lecturing multimedia topics in the Digital Media course.
PhD Students
Cani is a Computer Science PhD student at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE). She is currently a researcher and Product Designer at GRVM. Her fields of interest are human-computer interaction, human-robot interaction, smart environments interaction, and internet of things.
Fernanda Franklin is a PhD Student in Computer Science at Universidade Federal de
Pernambuco (UFPE) under the supervision of Prof. Judith Kelner. She has MSc in
Computer Science at UFPE and a BSc in Information Systems at Universidade do
Estado de Minas Gerais (UEMG). She has experience in Java back-end development in
OSS (Operation Support Systems), and Web Augmented Reality development. Member
of GRVM since 2020, her areas of interest are Mobile Application Development, User
Experience in Augmented Reality, Human-Robot Interaction, and Social Robots.
MSc Researchers
Bernardo Reis received his B.S. in Computer Engineering in 2010 and his M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2012 from the Federal University of Pernambuco. He is a member of the GRVM since 2007, where he has worked with augmented-reality, motion-based interaction, and high-performance computing, mainly with GPUs and FPGAs. His current research interests are computer vision and systems architecture.
Professional Designer since 2007, Silvio worked in different fields, from editorial and print to digital design. In 2012 Silvio became an expert in Interaction Design and started to work in the conception and design of applications and graphic interfaces. In 2014 Silvio had the opportunity to actuate in projects in Lisbon, Portugal.
Over the guidance of professor Judith Kelner, Silvio obtained a master’s degree at the Computer Science department at the Federal University of Pernambuco in 2019.
Vinicius Cesar has both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science, at the Federal University of Pernambuco. Vinicius started his activities at the GRVM in April 2011 and currently works as a senior researcher and project manager. His main area of interest is Computer Vision, specifically visual tracking and 3D reconstruction.
MSc Students
Bruno Jeronimo is an MSc student in Computer Science at the – CIn / UFPE.
He has a BSc in Business and Management from the Federal University of Pernambuco, and a diploma in iOS Development from the Apple Developers Academy.
Member of GRVM since 2019, his areas of interest are Software Development, Mobile Devices, User Research and Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Robot Interaction, Social Robots, Social Robots for Education, and Aspects of Security and Privacy in Social Robots.
Priscila graduated in Mechanical Engineering and is currently an MSc Student in Computer Science, both at the Federal University of Pernambuco. Her areas of interest are Human-Robot Interaction, Social Robots, and Facial Expressions.
Gabriel Reis graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) in 2016. He is currently a Master’s Student in Computer Science in CIn/UFPE. His areas of interest are product design, 3D mechanical model design and rapid prototyping. During his undergraduate course, Gabriel has participated in the mobility program Science Without Boards in the USA at Morgan State University. During the program, he was also a trainee at Embraer.
BSc Researchers
Aloysio Romeira has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering student (Graduated in 2020.1) with experience in mechanical design development, manufacturing, and reporting. Proactive, team worker and always looking for efficient solutions. In addition to being passionate about the automotive industry, currently having as a hobby, the preparation of internal combustion engines for drag racing.
BSc Students
Sérgio Arruda Filho is a student at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) currently working to get his bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. He has been a member of GRVM since August 2018 participating as a full stack developer and test engineer in developing computer vision solutions for major oil and gas extraction companies. Sérgio has proficiency in working with many programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, C# and such. His professional and research interests cover computer vision, product design and software engineering.
